Headteacher's Welcome

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am delighted to have taken on the role of Head Teacher at St Mary’s RC Primary in Bonnyrigg and St Matthew’s RC Primary in Rosewell. This shared headship gives us a unique opportunity to learn from and with one another.

I am looking forward to working with both schools to strengthen our sense of community through our shared faith and Gospel Values. Although we are Catholic schools, we welcome families from all faiths and strive to ensure everyone feels welcome and valued. Our dedicated staff teams work together regularly to continually improve our learning and teaching approaches and to share good practice across both schools.

Although our buildings are very different to look at, we are passionate about ensuring that our children and families will experience the same warm, nurturing ethos when they walk through either of our doors. Both schools have recently embarked upon their journeys to becoming Rights Respecting Schools and we will work together to ensure our pupils are able to access their rights in a safe, loving environment.

Bonnyrigg

We were delighted to move in to our brand new school in August 2020 and are delighted that the sense of community and family that we are so proud of, has been retained in our new building. St Mary’s RC Primary is at the heart of a thriving Community in Bonnyrigg and enjoys good links with the Catholic Church of Our Lady with our Parish Priest Father Michael.

Our learners have many opportunities to have their say about what happens in the school via our many Pupil Voice groups. All learners are assigned to a School House – St Margaret’s or St Andrew’s – and have lots of opportunities to win House Points throughout the year. Reward cards recognise when your child is making progress in learning, and pupils will also be rewarded for good behaviour in school by earning green cards for their class.

On enrolment at St Mary’s you will be invited to sign up for our school App where you can keep up to date with all school news and events. Please don’t hesitate to contact the School Office if you have any queries. We very much look forward to working in partnership with you.
